A man accused of killing a Detroit police sergeant was deemed incompetentto stand trial by the state’s forensic center, his attorney said today.
Marquise Cromer, 21, is facing first-degree murder and other charges in the September shooting death of Sgt. Kenneth Steil.
Sanford Schulman, Cromer’s attorney, said he met with prosecutors on Tuesday to discuss the results of the forensic center’s report, dated Oct. 18. After the report deemed Cromer incompetent, the prosecution requested an independent evaluation, Maria Miller, spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, said.
